ASUS to preload Express Gate instant-on Linux on all new motherboards

Last year ASUS released a motherboard, the P5E3, with an embedded compact Linux distro it called Express Gate. Basically a fast-boot alternative that, in just five seconds, bypassed Windows and gave you a web-browser, media player and other apps, it was developed by a company called DeviceVM (under the name Splashtop). ASUS were obviously pleased with how the mini-OS performed, as they’ve now decided to add Express Gate to all of their motherboards.

Titanic DNA Fountain Pens Made With Real Wreckage

Swiss luxury watchmaker Romain Jerome who has previously stunned us with creations like the Titanic-DNA watch and the Day & Night watch has now brought another absolute gem in the form of the very exclusive Titanic-DNA Fountain Pens. The design of the super luxuriant series of fine writing instruments is inspired by the now-legendary RMS Titanic. Created by Jean-Pierre and Benjamin Lepine in collaboration with Romain-Jerome CEO Yvan Arpa, the collection is limited to a series of 88 exquisitely handcrafted pieces only. In a befitting tribute to the luxury cruiser, the pens are crafted from the finest materials known to man including Palladium, brass, PVD, stainless steel and gold. The tech prowess of the doomed ship is also reflected in the construction of the pens themselves with a set of rivets, and a wheelhouse steering gear operating a propeller that draws ink into the pen’s nib. The clever technology is clearly visible via the sapphire glass porthole and simply bedazzles the mind of the beholder.

Each Romain Jerome Titanic-DNA fountain pen is decorated with a ring of oxidized steel at the barrel with the metal being a blend of materials reclaimed from the actual sunken ship and steel obtained from Harland & Wolff shipyards where the Titanic was built making it a rare collector’s item.
